Rashmi Guruprasad immediately knew which was her favourite sari from her mother’s collection when I mentioned Yards of Legacy project that I had in mind. She says , “Black saris are so rare in our household, especially black zari ones since they are not considered very auspicious, so this was a unique saree that stood out every time mom wore it.I have wanted to wear it since I was a little girl.Later I learnt that this is sort of a family heirloom and comes with an incredible story, passed on from my grandma to my mom, which makes it very special to me. Also black is my favorite color.”
The Sari looks so stunning in Monotones! She adds that there is a story behind the sari – “This is about 60 years old. The story goes that my grandma saw this saree and fell in love with it when she accompanied her cousin to an obscure saree store in Mysore, it was Rs500, which was incredibly expensive for the time.She saved for an entire year to be able to afford it and made the store owner keep it with him without selling it till she could buy it. In this day of internet shopping and instant gratification, I love this story and this saris history.”

About the great look she put together for the sari – “I used a crop top I had on hand since I didn’t have a blouse to go with the saree and I quite like the look and will certainly repeat it. My jhumkas are from a designer called Eina Ahluwalia that I found on instagram, the age of the internet I tell you :)”
